This one of a kind piece was drawn, designed and constructed by Marissa Baker, via the leaded method, using entirely scrap glass. "Scrap glass"-- despite the somewhat wasteful connotation, is essentially the off cuts from larger sheets that are often too small to use in most other projects. Most, but not all.

In the spirit of waste not want not, Marissa has achieved this piece using only scrap glass, displaying (much like the mouth watering contents of a real stew pot) that a masterpiece can often be made up of whatever odds and ends are left over. The difference between what to give up on (throw out) and what to give another chance, comes down to perspective, optimism and determination. In a world that is far too quick to discard, we must strive to re-train ourselves in the practice of resourcefulness.

The glass used ranges from striking bullseye, to vintage baroque, to mouth blown pink flash glass. The expanse of glass used, over varying manufacturers, decades acquired, and methods in which produced, make this piece a time capsule of sorts for the glass appreciator.

The instantly recognizable subject matter conveys feelings of comfort and warmth, and beckons memories of family (born, made or found) sharing quality time together over a home cooked meal.

Ultimately, however, what this piece really boils down to is the feeling it invoked within YOU.
